About the Student Success Center-Hardman

The Student Success Center-Hardman at New Mexico State University is a centralized, university-wide academic support service for students from all disciplines, and at all levels of academic standing. Through Center programs, based on educational psychology and learning theory, students will increase their academic self-awareness and develop the most current learning and study strategies necessary for success in the university environment. Such strategies will also help students achieve their full potential as empowered, life-long learners.

To address the diverse factors that affect learning, the Center is committed to providing a broad array of services: to directly assist students; to collaborate with faculty and staff; and, to train faculty, staff, and students in order to enhance the academic achievement of all students, and the educational environment at NMSU.

The Student Success Center-Hardman offers:

UNIV Courses & Mid-Semester Courses

The Student Success Center-Hardman offers a variety of UNIV courses to improve your learning and study skills, and to prepare for the Graduate Record Exam. Mid-semester courses start near the middle of the semester and can be added to maintain full-time academic status if a student needs to drop another course to preserve their GPA.

Freshman Year Experience (FYE) Course

Freshman Year Experience (UNIV 150) is a 3-credit elective course which provides an introduction to the university and its resources. In FYE, you will clarify your college and career goals, receive guidance to establish a major, discover which methods help you learn most effectively, create new friendships, and learn all the resources NMSU has to offer. The Freshman Year Experience course emphasizes development of academic and personal skills that enable freshmen to become successful students at NMSU.

TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program

TRiO Student Support Services is a federally funded program which serves 350 NMSU students who are first generation (neither parent graduated from college with a four-year degree), meet low income criteria, and/or have disabilities. The SSS mission is to help students to stay in college until they earn a baccalaureate degree through specific services such as mentoring, tutoring, cultural activities, computer loans, and study-skills workshops.
