On February 29, 2020, NMSU will host the 4th Annual Young Achievers Forum that brings approximately 600 sixth graders from Alamogordo Public Schools, Deming Public Schools, Hatch Valley Schools, Gadsden Independent School District, and Las Cruces Public Schools* to NMSU to receive first-hand exposure to a college campus. This event is a collaboration between NMSU and CommUNITY en Acción, a local civic organization of leaders dedicated to furthering education in our community.
The mission of the Young Achievers Forum is to inspire and motivate students to think beyond high school and to open their minds to aspire toward post-secondary education. Students will experience an energetic day filled with hands-on activities that will expose them to careers in many fields including health and fitness, STEM, business/finance, medical, liberal arts/education, and technical/vocational.
Middle school counselors/teachers (from the five school districts noted above*) should contact their respective superintendent’s office or administration for registration information.
NMSU students and staff are invited to volunteer as student guides or team leaders to make this event a success by enhancing the experience of local youth and helping to further education in the community.
- Student Guides (NMSU Students) will interact with students and provide information about college life while
- Team Leaders (NMSU Staff) will oversee the transition of their team throughout the event while interacting with students who are attending the Young Achievers Forum.
